Milton Mount has a strong connection with Caterham School, an independent school originally for boys, but now coeducational. Frequently parents would send their daughter (or daughters) to Milton Mount College and their son(s) to Caterham.
In the summer term, an annual dance was held at Milton Mount for the lower and upper sixth forms of the two schools. Excitement mounted as the girls put on their best dresses and styled their hair. No make-up, of course.
Teachers kept a discreet eyes on proceedings; however, on one memorable occasion, the traditional conga was led a merry dance upstairs and down, including the bedrooms!
When Crawley Corporation bought Worth Park, the proceeds of the sale were used to establish a foundation able to help fund the education of the children of Congregational or URC ministers. Bursaries towards school fees are available to eligible children - girls and boys - aged 11 or over.
Details can be obtained from the Milton Mount Foundation Secretary, Rosie Hopkins, 23 Hillary Road, Farnham, Surrey, GU9 8QX; tel. 01252 715087.
In 1962 Milton Mount College amalgamated with Wentworth School at Bournemouth to form Wentworth Milton Mount (later changed to Wentworth
College). Financial problems led to the school being bought by the United Church Schools Trust and its combination with another Bournemouth School to form Bournemouth Collegiate School. The school is coeducational, has junior and senior sections (the latter a boarding school) and is equipped to the highest modern standards.
